The Path to Peace

Want to worry less? Then pray more. Rather than look forward in fear, look upward in faith. This command surprises no one. Regarding prayer, the Bible never blushes. Jesus taught people that “it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit” (Luke 18:1 MSG). Paul told believers, “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart” (Colossians 4:2 NLT). James declared, “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray” (James 5:13 NLT).

Rather than worry about anything, “pray about everything” (Philippians 4:6 NLT). Everything? Diaper changes and dates? Business meetings and broken bathtubs? Procrastinations and prognostications? Pray about everything.

The path to peace is paved with prayer. Less consternation, more supplication. Fewer anxious thoughts, more prayer-filled thoughts. As you pray, the peace of God will guard your heart and mind. And in the end, what could be better?

Pray about everything. That’s God’s invitation to us. Not shyly, but boldly. How often do we take him up on his offer? Perhaps we think, This is not worth praying about. Or, I can handle this on my own. I won’t bother God. And do you ever get so bogged down you forget to ask for help? The truth is, God wants to hear about our struggles from our own lips. If you hesitate to hand over your worries to God, remember this: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” MATTHEW 7:7–8

We can pray about anything. We can pray about everything. We can pray any time and all the time. God wants to hear our prayers. Have a conversation with God, spend time with Him. Listen to Him.
