LIGHTNING BUGS

Summer evenings can be incredibly peaceful. The heat of the day is done. The neighborhood is settled, and the world is dark. It was just such a night when we were outside enjoying the evening. The stars were hidden on this overcast sky, making it darker than usual. Then we saw it. One little lightning bug flew near the fence and briefly lit up. As our eyes adjusted to the darkness, we began to see more lightning bugs. Suddenly, the yard seemed to be filled with little specks of light. We looked at each other, I thought “If it hadn’t been so dark, we might have missed them.”
In His Word, Jesus promised that we would experience trials and hardships. Life holds seasons of darkness, and darkness can be scary. For the Christ-follower, however, it’s never a complete darkness. Again and again in Scripture, God has promised to never leave us. We don’t need to be afraid or try to hide. We just need to pause and give our eyes a chance to adjust, seeking those little specks of light. We can be confident that they are there because He has promised that He is there.
Once we stop focusing on the dark, we’ll begin to see glimmers of light everywhere. We will see Him and know Him in a way that we might have missed if it had not been so dark. The darkness would be a scary place, Lord, if You were not in it. When we’re tempted to focus on the dark, help us to see the light instead.
Blessings
Dianna
